Today it’s spring, and the Poplars’ foliage is filling in – once again.
As leafy life returns to the trees outside my window, I am returning to my blogging. Keep reading →

Barack Obama – on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – squarely addressed the race issue – in a speech titled “A More Perfect Union.”
Through the campaign, Obama has endeavored to avoid becoming the race candidate. But circumstances forced his hand.
And what an astonishing hand it was. Keep reading →

“Variety’s the very spice of life, That gives it all its flavor”
– William Cowper
I cook and mix and select for flavor.
Since my life shifted a bit, over the past few years, and I do all the cooking in the house – which was not the case, ever before – it’s been interesting to look back and see the path I followed – the choices I’ve made.

I make a truly super salad for two that is loaded with flavor, and it’s easy and inexpensive to make.
I have three ideas I’m working with here: 1) vegetables as a “Best Pattern,” 2) making a salad tasty without loading on heavy dressing, and 3) making the building of a salad fairly easy and inexpensive. Keep reading →

I redecorate my home every month. But I do the heavy work in the first few days of January.
A seasonal tradition, that I’ve developed over the years, is decorating with calendars. Keep reading →

New beginnings are a recurring theme in films. One of my favorites is Quoyle in Shipping News. As they survey Quoyle Point, after a storm blew the green house away, Quoyle says, “If a piece of knotted string can unleash the wind, and if a drowned man can awaken, then I believe a broken man can heal.” Keep reading →
